●Navy stripes: Circa 2000's handkerchief
This fabric is dead stock from a weaver who runs a cottage industry in Banshu (Nishiwaki). From the late 1950s to the 1990s, 60% of Banshu weaving was woven for export, so the color schemes and finishes designed for overseas markets are very interesting.
This fabric is originally used for high-quality handkerchiefs, and is soft to the touch and has excellent sweat absorption and quick drying properties.
The fabric is unique in that it has cutting lines running vertically and horizontally for making handkerchiefs.
